Much has been said about the home of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Shlit"a, but very little about his family who look after him and care for him after the death of his wife, Margalit.
As we know, the leader of the Shas movement recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is the father of 11 children, six daughters and five sons, and grandfather to dozens of grandchildren and dozens of great-grandchildren. Every one of his sons and son in laws are talented and experienced rabbis who are important in their own right.
Rabbi Moshe Yosef, the youngest son can be found amongst his sons, who was born and raised in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, whilst his father was the chief rabbi of Tel Aviv.
The Rabbi is married to Yehudit and father of nine children. He is responsible for the Institute "Maor Yisrael" which he heads; likewise he is also responsible for the publishing of his father's books. Among the institutions he directs one can find the Badatz, Institute Maor Yisrael, and a Kollel. He finished his studies at Yeshivat Kol Torah and the Chevron Yeshiva in Jerusalem.
After the death of his mother, Rebbetzin Margalit he moved with his wife to live with his father in Har Nof, to nurse him and care for him and all his needs.
The move of the young couple to the Rabbi's home in their 20's when their future lay ahead of them, to bear all the treatment and manage the household was not trivial, and by all accounts was a difficult sacrifice, especially when talking about a young couple that needs a minimum of privacy. Soon the couple found them running a home that is substantially the same and the number of visitors to the president or the prime minister.
Rabbi Moshe gives all he can to his father and sacrifices his future to provide all his needs while he and his wife Yehudit conspicuously turn away from the media and their voice was not heard until now.
Challenge
According to people close to the rabbi's home, "the household of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is not easy, hosting dozens of people every day until late at night, getting up during the night to take care of all the needs of the rabbi, it requires great sacrifice and Rebbetzin Yehudit stands alone".
Today they are in their forties and still keep doing their job in a dignified manner, after many years they have devoted their lives to maintain the Rabbi and care of all his needs. We see and feel the results of their treatment, as the Rabbi looks good, still writing books and enriching the public with his knowledge.
Sources close to the rabbi will record the merit to the two who were both careful to preserve the health of the Rabbi and manage for him a healthy lifestyle.
In the history of our people can be seen quite a few brides who cared for their father in law in a dignified manner, only recently we read in Bereishis, that Tamar worried for the honour of Yehuda until she was ready to be burned with fire and not disrespect her father in law.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef has published a few books in recent years, in his books the Rabbi thanks his son and daughter in law for caring for him.
