Syrian opposition claims that the use of poison gas by the Syrian police forces earlier this week was not the first time that the Assad did it. "The opposition has documented 18 times when the regime used chemical weapons on the outskirts of Damascus suburbs of Idlib, Homs and suburbs of Hama."
Free Syrian Army spokesman, Louis Miqdad, told the London Sun - Sharq Al - Awsat that in 18 of these times these gases were used. "This is a new type of toxic gases that we did not know existed in the chemical arsenals of the Syrian regime. Therefore it is possible to estimate that the regime got them lately."
Other factors in the opposition cited, that the regime fired grenades with poison gas caused shortness of breath, eye problems and nerves - at the Khalid neighborhood in Homs. "The doctors have not been able so far to find out what kind of gas it," they added.
Meanwhile, Syrian opposition sources reported today, that the commander of Syria's military police, General Abdul - Aziz Shalal, defected to the rebel ranks. Shala, who holds the subject level 'Liwa' - equivalent to Major General in the IDF, is the highest ranking Syrian security in the rebel ranks artery in the since the beginning of the uprising in Syria 21 months ago.
In addition to his role as commander of the military police, Shalal was responsibile for a number of prisons such as Sidnaia and Tadmar. In this role Shalal changed Interior Minister Mohammed Shaer, who was lying seriously wounded in Beirut after an explosion in his office two weeks ago.
So far it is unclear what the condition of the interior minister is. According to some reports in the Arab media during the explosion in his office, he lost one of his hands. However, sources in Lebanon denied the report, claiming that he is getting better and that he left the intensive care unit and moved to a regular ward at the hospital.
