Hgr"o Yosef against Netanyahu: "Housing ministers sat at home and smoked their pipe"

At his weekly sermon on Motzei Shabbos, the Torah Council of Sages of Shas attacked the Prime Minister.

The background to the attack were the declarations made during the past days by Benjamin Netanyahu, and especially in programs broadcasted on Motzei Shabbos, on his intentions to remove the key ministries, including the housing ministry, out of the hands of the sectored parties – and pass them to the leading party.

The Prime Minister made it clear on Motzei Shabbos in public that the housing ministry will be in the hands of the Likud – Beitenu in the next government and not in the hands of Shas. In interviews given to three TV channels Netanyahu explained that he has an "open account' with the housing bureaucracy: "I plan on leaving the housing ministry and land administration with me, since I plan on doing with the housing prices the same as we did with the cellular market."

Netanyahu also confirmed that his partner Avigor Lieberman plans on keeping the Interior ministry with the Likud-Beitenu: "Lieberman spoke with me about the Interior, I heard it and I am weighing the possibilities", Netanyahu said in the interview to the first channel.

Some say that this is only an election spin, designed to appease those who are angry about Shas taking office executives, and that after the elections, Netanyahu will renounce statements made.


Either way, tonight Hgr"o Yosef attacked Netanyahu on his intention and asked: "Who cares more for the poor, weak and downtrodden? Bibi wants to cut more than ten billion from every office!"

Hgr"o Yosef added: "They are jealous of us, they want to take the housing ministry from our hands… what did Atias not do for the weak, also the Ashkenazi and the Sephardic. All previous ministers would sit at home and smoke their pipe, but our minister Atias, did for the sake of the weak. Therefore those who love Hashem, those who love the poor, will go in the way of Hashem who cares for the poor, will go in His way and do for the poor and the Torah."
