Hgr"sh Auerbach on the Grossman attack: "misappropriation of mind"

First publication in B'Chadrei Charedim: Hgr"sh Auerbach and rabbis of the Hapeles newspaper, Baruch Shmuel HaCohen Deutsch and Zvi Friedman, advertise a sharp letter of protest against the attack on the editor of the newspaper, Nati Grossman.

Grossman, a former editor of Yated Ne'eman - who was ousted from his position immediately after the revolution carried out under the direction of the newspaper - was attacked on Thursday night, after 1:00 am, by two unknown assailants who appeared orthodox, at the entrance to the building where he lives on 14 Bayit Vegan Street in Bayit Vegan in Jerusalem.

Grossman was taken to hospital suffering dry injuries, minor cuts on his face, and broken fingers. He was released shortly before Shabbos from Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

Grossman suffers from broken fingers - his ring finger on the right hand and one of his fingers on the left hand - after defending himself with his hands on his head during the attack.

Police immediately began investigating the incident. According to police spokesman Shmulik Ben Ruby, Grossman claimed that the attack was carried out against journalist rival, but police are investigating a number of other directions.

According to Grossman, one of the attackers was masked while the other attacker's face was visible.

Meanwhile, despite rumors and reports, no arrests were made and police have no suspects on the attack. Although there are several versions on the background of the attack, Hgr"sh Auerbach has no doubts and along with the rest of the rabbis at 'Hapeles' is trying to suggest the identity of the attackers.

The letter was worded strongly. The mild attack is no less than "misappropriation of mind" and "indescribable violence", and he heaps on Grossman superlative degrees who is no less than those who "were ordered by Maran Avi Ezri zy"a, and Rav Elyashiv zt"l who's stand in the breach does not change what we received from our rabbis. "

On what interest do we not change? Against those who stand in the breach? And how exactly was Grossman ordered for that? That is not explained in the letter. The letter concludes with the hope that Grossman will continue to guard the faith for many years.

And the full text of the letter:

"Following the terrible rumor that reached us," the letter begins, "when men of sin dared to use unimaginable violence, lifted their hands and tried to harm the one sent by the one who was sent by the Avi Ezri zy"a and Hgry"sh Elyashiv zy'a to stand at the front and not change which we received from our Rabbanim ztvk"l and Harav Natan Zev Grossman shlit"a.

"We protest against this with all our might and area afraid of what this may bring since this entered our camp."

"We wish him a speedy recovery and may he merit guarding the faith for many more years to come."

Signed: Shmuel Auerbach, Baruch Shmuel Hacohen Deutsch and Zvi Friedman.
