Sages of Israel have signed an open letter, calling out not to turn in Yitzchak Shochet, a Chabad Chassid who fled the neighborhood of Crown Heights U.S.A. to Israel.

Shochet is suspected in the U.S. of 'hate crime', after beating a black youngster that in the neighborhood. He fled to Israel from the city of New York.

Authorities in the United States came back and sought his extradition from Israel. Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court ruled that Shochet should be extradited to the U.S. authorities, 12 to 60 days after receiving the decision.

However, a final approval was required – which should be provided for by Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman, and only after adding his signature could he be extradited. So far, two weeks since the decision in the case, Shochet was not extradited.

Shochet's family is trying to pressure the public, to prevent the extradition. He has won a letter of strength and support from Gedolei Yisrael.

Those who have already signed the letter – calling out not to turn Shochet to the U.S. – is "the shevet levi", HaGaon Wosner, Hgray"l Steinman, Hgr"o Yosef and Hgr"ch Chaim Kanievsky.
