Volunteers and Hgrsh"e Stern – in a demonstration against a police officer

A demonstration took place this evening (Tuesday) by the Hatzalah Gush Dan organization, against an Israeli policeman, who they claim is harassing them.

This evening, a volunteer at the Hatzalah Gush Dan organization, was on his way to a medical case. He was stopped by a policeman on guard on the corner of Rabbi Akiva in Bnei Brak, and was asked to present a certificate of "emergency vehicle" that allows him to install and activate an alarm system and roller.

When the volunteer replied that he had no such approval, the officer told him to get out, and the volunteer was taken to the police station in Ramat Gan.

The volunteer was given a fine on the total of NIS 750 for activation of sirens and emergency in a vehicle which is not considered a security vehicle.

As a result, dozens of Hatzalah Gush Dan volunteers, - led by their rabbi, Rabbi Shmuel Eliezer Stern arrived at the station in Ramat Gan, where they protested against the police officer handing out reports to volunteers who go out to save lives.

Commander Albert Ochayon, Dan Regional Police Commander sat in his office with Rabbi Stern, and they agreed to meet soon.

Last week, a similar incident occurred when a volunteer was detained on Rashi Street in Ramat Gan on his way to a rescue case.

He received a report on the sum of NIS 1,000 and removing of his vehicle off the road on the grounds of faulty tires. According to the volunteer, the officer sought a pretext to remove the car from the road.

Other faults with the officer took place three weeks ago, when the volunteer G. was talking to the MDA center on the phone to get the exact address of an emergency case of, he received a report on the total of NIS 1,000. In that case too, the officer referred to the volunteer in a rude manner.

According to a senior in Hatzalah Gush Dan, this is a specific traffic warden who harasses the volunteers, belittling them, and is foulmouthed to the volunteers who go out to save lives.

Police: "Law or law"
But the police treat it differently.

Commander Albert Ochayon, Dan Regional Police Commander said in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim, that this is the law, and therefore cannot complain about the police who is doing his job.

"When I, as commander of the region leave the house with my wife's car, I do not drive through a red light, I do not speed and I act as a citizen in every aspect," he said.

"The issue of saving lives is very important, but cannot be done outside of the law, and to complain. The organization leaders would do the right thing if they organize, and ask their representatives in the Knesset to regulate this law," concluded Albert.

Orit Friedman, Tel Aviv police spokesman responded that "crossing red lights, driving fast, running rollers, and red lights are illegal for a car that is not defined as an emergency vehicle.

"If someone was wronged, he should come and complain about it, and submit that appeal."
