Merav Michaeli opposes recruiting the orthodox to the IDF
Merav Michaeli, fourth on the 'Avodah' list, is not afraid to offer a full exemption for yeshiva students • this is how to "withdraw the Rabbi's power from under their feet" • and what a 'hard and annoying life'?

The new star of the Avodah Party - Merav Michaeli, released today (Tuesday) a surprising statement about recruiting orthodox to the IDF, during a 'Talking Gordon' event.
"I am not in favor of recruiting the orthodox to the army. The Israeli politics are giving power to the Rabbis – in that we continue to insist on recruiting. This is a historical injustice and there is no doubt about it, but it has been done," argued Michaeli.
"Yeshiva studies are not fun; it's a hard and annoying life. There are few who capable to sit from morning to night are, and memorize the Talmud; it is an extremely complicated thing. Concerning the separation and hatred there is between religious and secular Jews, it is much more important that the orthodox will work and they will be involved in the society. I have no doubt that if today the orthodox would be overwhelmingly dismissed from the military service, we would withdraw the rabbis power from under their feet. Many haredim want to integrate and be dismissed from the military service and stop the threat of recruiting." Michaeli finished her position heard in recent times from different directions.
As a proud representative of the various women's organizations, Michaeli did not forget to specify the subject of 'exclusion of women' in the army, which might, G-d forbid, worsen if many orthodox enlist. "It took so many years to reach this state – which is still not brilliant – of the status of women in the military. We will pay a price so high that I do not see any reason to pay it."
