Brachfeld Mir Yeshiva student, who was apparently lying in his bed, inadvertently pulled the cord of an electric kettle situated on a shelf above his head. The kettle full of boiling water spilled on him, and caused him many burns all over his body.
After treatment at the scene by Hatzalah volunteers the boy who's whole body was covered with severe burns was evacuated by MICU to Tel Hashomer, where his condition is defined as serious but stable.
A Hatzalah paramedic who was summoned, Moti Meyvesky, told B'Chadrei Charedim: "We received an urgent report about a boy with mild burns in the east wing of the dormitory. A few drivers rushed to the scene and found a boy that his whole body was covered with severe burns - not mildly as initially reported. Although he was fully conscious, his head, face, chest and feet were covered with blisters and burns. His friends took him immediately to the shower room to splash cold water on him. It is not clear how it happened, but apparently, he sat down or accidentally pulled the cord of the kettle and the contents spilled him."
"As usual in these cases, the goal in mind is to stabilize the situation. We pulled out our Brandshield bandages and suspensions and rubbed them all over his body. Meanwhile, to prevent dehydration, which can occur after severe burns, when the body mobilizes fluids to cool the searing heat and may even amount to loss of consciousness, we opened a vein in one of the arteries and we gave him intravenous fluids to maintain low heat levels in the body.
"Mobile intensive care paramedic, who rushed to the place, took him to the medical center, Tel Hashomer in serious but stable condition. He will receive treatment that we are unable give, mostly preventing of skin deterioration and infection."
Hatzalah Union calls on the public to pay extra attention and be careful in the winter, with the location of radiators, ovens, electric kettles, etc., to prevent disasters. "We cannot avoid making a cup of steaming tea or coffee, but you can keep strict precautions to minimize those appalling cases," they say.
