12 years have passed since Ariel Yered was wounded, by a mortar shell that fell in his yard - caused him serious injury, which he is still recovering from. This morning (Monday), Ariel went up to the Torah in his school, after he celebrated yesterday his Bar Mitzvah, with family and friends, and took the opportunity to thank for the miracle.

The injury Ariel suffered during one of the early days of Al - Aqsa Intifada, three mortar shells hit the settlement of Tzmona, where the Yered family lived. Ariel, who was a year and three months, was sitting in his yard and playing to his pleasure.

One of the bombs landed there, fragments penetrated the body of Ariel, who seriously injured and taken to Soroka Medical Center hospital in Beer Sheva. It later emerged that one of shrapnel cut his brain from left to right, causing severe bleeding stress on brain cells. In the hospital he was fully resuscitated, the doctors did not give him much of a chance to live, and told the parents that if he did survive the injury, he will be in a coma for life.

Ariel's parents did not give up, and believed that in the merit of the many prayers dedicated to his recovery he will recover and heal.

For three weeks Ariel passed difficult surgeries and medical treatments, after which he was transferred to Allin Rehabilitation Hospital - where he spent a year and a half. Doctors at the hospital determined that he suffered a severe head injury, one that will require a long rehabilitation process, and made it clear that the results cannot be guaranteed.

During his hospitalization at Allin his medical condition improved, he began to communicate, and continued rehabilitation process - which continues even now. Recently his family produced a film that recreates - along with doctors in hospitals and his family - Ariel's life, from birth, the period of injury until the day of his bar mitzvah.

"We feel that he was reborn"
Last week Ariel went with his parents and eight brothers to the Western Wall – where he laid tefillin for the first time.

As mentioned, last night (Sunday) he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah. A few days beforehand he came to invite the Allin hospital staff, which accompanied him for 11 years, and the team of doctors at Soroka Medical Center, where they were excited to see the achievements of the amazing and miraculous recovery he went through.

"It's exciting," says Liah, the mother of Ariel, in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim. "We feel like he was born to us twice, like he was given to us as a gift. Once on the day he was born, and again on the day the miracle happened and he was saved from the significant damage in the yard itself."

Liah adds: "Only today, after we restore the procedure we went through with the doctors, we understand what a difficult situation he came to the hospital in, and what a long process he went through. Thank G-d, Hashem made a miracle, and thanks to the prayers – we received a new child."

This Shabbos Ariel will go up to the Torah and will read the Haftarah in the in the Shomriah shul, where his family lives today.
