Inside the sanctity • HaGaon Auerbach visited unexpectedly at the home of Hgray"l Steinman

Members of the Ashdod branch backed the struggle against Hgray"l Steinman and Hgr"ch Kanievsky - a struggle reflected in the establishment of the 'Hapeles' newspaper, Netzach party, by Maalot Hatorah Rosh Yeshiva, HaGaon Auerbach, who supports them. The argument was repeated again and again, though it was never explicitly presented with a letter of support of Hgr"sh.


Today (Sunday) at about three o'clock - afternoon, HaGaon Auerbach made a surprise move to the house of Hgray"l Steinman on 5 Chazon Ish Street in Bnei Brak. The two spoke privately for about ten minutes.

At the end of the conversation HaGaon Auerbach went to the Chochmas Shlomo Yeshiva , where he spoke at a Chanukah party. Later Hgray"l also arrived, and the two sat side by side. Hgray"l spoke to students at the yeshiva and then returned home.


It was near noon. The driver of Hgray"l, Rabbi Yitzchak Rosengarten arrived at the house at 5 Chazon Ish Street to drive him to the Chanuka party, at Chochmas Shlomo Yeshiva. Hgray"l debated whether to go, because on the one hand, he arrives every year, and on the other hand, maybe he should eat something – and maintain his strength.

In middle of the dilemma, knocking was heard on the door. Family members were surprised to find HaGaon Auerbach at the entrance to the house, asking to speak with Hgray"l alone. This meeting was carried out with the surprised household members holding their breath.


HaGaon Auerbach entered Hgray"l's room for about ten minutes. Since assistants or associates were not present in the room, it could only be assumed that the conversation between the two dealt on Torah issues.

And why the surprise? Because for months sources at the Chazon Ish home insisted not to allow such a meeting to take place, with the argument that this is a useless meeting.


So how did the meeting come about after all?

Behind the scenes of the meeting were involved Rabbi of Ramat Elchanan and member of Council of Torah Sages of Degel HaTorah, Hagaon Silberstein, who went back and forth from Chazon Ish Street in Bnei Brak to the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood of Jerusalem, in an attempt to reconcile the parties. Hgray"l heard him attentively due to respect, although the negotiations were not really conducted. At one point Hagaon Silberstein understood that if HaGaon Auerbach will come to the house, no one will stop the visit he so desired.
