After 'the veibers speeches': Lieberman apologizes and jokes

Avigdor Lieberman is most certainly going through something. One of the most rugged man in the Israeli politics, not only surprised with his resignation a few minutes before Shabbos, but also – believe it or not - apologized: the outgoing foreign minister issued at noon (Sunday) his Facebook page with a humorous apology to the Polish community in a statement that was made towards the three-chairmen of the left parties, after his speech on Thursday - after learning the attorney general's decision to indict him - Lieberman called Shelly Yachimovich, Tzipi Livni and Zehava Gal-On "the veibers" (women, dismissive tone) and described them as a 'Polish group'."

Lieberman's Facebook page reads: "Israeli public life, which deals with cardinal things and often, unfortunately, too difficult and painful things, it is preferable, when possible, to occasionally spice things with a little humor."

However, "as one who greatly appreciates the Polish community in Israel and their great contribution over the years to the state, and as one who in the last elections a third of his party were women carrying even senior positions, I never thought a little joke will make all this noise. So now, seriously, not jokingly, my sincere apologies to those hurt and those hurt from the joke.

"And now," Lieberman concluded the post, "I will sit a bit on my own in the dark, and I'll think about it again .... :-) ".

On Thursday, at a candle lighting event of Likud youngsters, Lieberman strongly attacked political criticism against him, and said: "I saw the attacks of the three veibers, who attacked me - Tzipi Livni, Shelly Yachimovich, Zahava Gal On - the Polish team. Actually Zehava is Lithuanian, not Polish, I think, but the three veibers attacked me furiously. They did not attack me; they fought each other through me. Ultimately one cannot ignore these things."
