Hundreds of Tahash chassidim who arrived yesterday to light the candles in the presence of the elderly Rebbe of Tahash, had to leave in a hurry from the Beis Medrash just before lighting the candles, because of a fire that broke out downstairs, in the room where water tanks and electrical system are placed.
Rabbi David Ilovitz, who came especially from Montreal for candle lighting, said: "The Rebbe's large menorah was ready; the Rebbe made the final preparations before lighting, and suddenly we felt the smell of smoke spread in the room. Initially we thought someone had lit something, but the smoke had progressed.
"The immediate vicinity of the Rebbe began to move, suddenly I saw the Gabbaim quickly remove the Rebbe from the Beis Medrash. At this point, heavy smoke spread throughout the area. We all rushed out of the Beis Medrash. Fire fighters and rescue and police forces arrived at the scene, and then it turned out that the boiler room located below the Beis Medrash was on fire. Firefighters began their work, and worked for forty minutes extinguishing the fire."
Finally, the Rebbe lit candles at home, hundreds of followers who attended the candle lighting were disappointed, but the Tahas chassidus claimed this is a real Chanuka miracle, since heavy smoke which spread in the Beis Medrash was very dangerous for the elderly Rebbe.
Due to the fire the Rebbe will light candles today (Thursday) at his house and not at the Beis Medrash.
