For the first time in Ponevez - lunch for avreichim during Hanukkah, to avoid a laxity in studying.
As known, during Hanukkah a laxity is created in the Sdorim of the Kollel - when the second Seder is almost empty, since avreichim are preparing in their homes for lighting Chanukah candles. This year the yeshiva president Hagr"a Kahneman decided that it is not befitting that precisely on Hanukkah, the time feared in which Am Yisroel was saved of the decree "Lehashkichom Torasecha" - Torah study will diminish for technical reasons.
Hagr"a therefore proposed an innovative initiative, which won excited responses, and according to which after Mincha at 13:30, all the avreichim of Ponevez Kollel will receive lunch, a step which will free them from having to go home at noon, and soon after, Seder Beis will start which will last until 4 pm.
At Ponevez, the words of Hgry"g Edelstein last year were mentioned, when he related at the Chanuka party that both at Ponevez and Lomza on Chanukah they made sure to maintain the Sdorim without any change.
"The second Seder," said Hgry"g, "began as usual at three and a quarter, and they all came on time to the Seder and were ashamed to be late. When it was time to light the candles everyone was at the yeshiva, and during lighting they were at the yeshiva Hall. Then they would go down to the rooms to light candles, and after lighting would sing Maoz Tzur, and then immediately returned to the Beis Midrash and continued the Seder – so it was on Chanukah. For Shabbos Hanukkah they would also remain to study at the yeshiva."
"Baruch Hashem," Hgry"g continued, "in recent years there has been Chizuk at the yeshiva, even those who travel home for Shabbos go before Chanukah, to avoid laxity in learning Torah during Hanukkah, which are holy days and are able to bring success in Torah. Therefore, a student who has to go home for Shabbos, should rather go another Shabbos, and whoever does not need to go home for Shabbos, there really is no Mitzva in that, unless the parents are waiting for him, for then there's a Mitzva of Kibud Av."
