Political turmoil following the government's decision yesterday to exempt some 1,300 yeshiva students from military service for civil service route continues, and candidates try to make attention: Yesh Atid party chairman, Yair Lapid, petitioned this morning (Monday) to the High Court against the decision government. along with him came to the High Court to sunbathe in cameras, members of Yesh Atid list for the Knesset, including Rabbi Shai Piron, Yael German, Yaakov Perry and Ofer Shelah.
Lapid attacked the government's conduct in terms of recruiting the Orthodox and said: "I appealed this morning to the Supreme Court to bring to the cancellation of the governments nasty decision yesterday to release 1300 young Haredim from Military service. This obscene decision was made for wasteful political reasons and contempt of the Supreme Court ruling that canceled the Tal Law four months ago."
Petition filed with the Supreme Court stated: "The government's decision was made, despite the expiry of the Tal Law more than four months ago, but even worse the government decision was made contrary to the High Court ruling which determined there the defense minister - let alone the government – has no authority to exempt yeshiva students from conscription army." Petitioners further stated: "This decision is designed to bypass Bagatz designed to continue to perpetuate the longstanding discrimination against abuse of the public serving and is the result of extraneous considerations which grew and multiplied, due to improper political motives and depravity, whose only worry is the preservation of the coalition with the religious parties."
Lapid not only validated Netanyahu, but also the Avodah Party leader Shelly Yachimovich: "I do not understand why I stand here alone on the courthouse steps and chairman of the Avodah Party does not stand with me as a partner in the process. Everyone should serve. We are here to undertake not to sit in the government who will not accept this principle. This is one of our five commitments and part of our contract with the State of Israel. "
But opposition to the government's decision does not stop just at the HC but continues into the street. Heads of the sucker's tents, Boaz Nol and Idan Miller, who came to the movement, led by Livni, announced that they will establish a new tent this morning: "Bibi, mocked us, and he continues to mock the public in Israel. The public continues to be a sucker and bear the burden alone, just because the Prime Minister sells the public interest for his alliance with the Orthodox."
Haredi MKs do not respond to the issue, in order not to be drawn to other anti - religious parties, but those who do respond is the man who heads the Civil Service Director - National Minister - Shalom Gerbi, who does not understand what the fuss is about. "I do not think there is on what to appeal to court. The public needs to understand that these are 22 year olds married with a child, or single 26 year olds, who we bring to the civil service. I do not see any problem with that, but the opposite - instead of continuing not do anything, they will come and will combine to give and carry the burden."
