Candle lights shone in Kremlin • See: Central candle lighting in Moscow

At a mass gathering which was attended last night (Motzei Shabbos) at the central candle lighting in the center of Moscow, a great and glorious menorah erected outside the walls of the Kremlin, by the Chief Rabbi of Russia, Hagr"b Lazar, along with many dignitaries.

The exciting gathering was postulated by the Jewish Community Union of the Soviet Union spokesman Rabbi B. Gorin, who invited the Rabbi of Russia to say a few words.

In his speech Hagr"b Lazar called out to every Jew to light the Chanukkah candles, and take the light and warmth of the holiday all year round, increasing participation in synagogue prayers, concern for Jewish Education to one's children and keeping the mitzvot.

The entire event was broadcast to hundreds of millions of viewers through the Russian media - broadcast from the site, and provided respectable 'Nisa publications'.

After lighting the candles, crowds danced and sang to Hasidic songs which swept them all and warmed their hearts, despite the bitter cold.

This event opened the chain of hundreds of Chanukah events, to be held this year in Moscow in particular and in Russia in general.
