The jury cannot determine: Is Weberman to blame?

The jury in New York had trouble last Friday to sentence Nechemiah Weberman., a Satmar chasid age 54, a resident of Brooklyn, on a trial going on suspicion of criminal acts.

The court has raised a storm in the haredi streets and in the local media.

"It's tough," said a former jurist in a conversation with the Daily News. "The jury is parted in the middle; do not know what to decide."

However, he emphasized that he has convicted Weberman of at least 60 guilt sections out of 88 sections.

The jury which consists of 6 men and 6 women will continue discussions - and the final decision will be, probably made on Monday.

The jury had to recently learn about the lifestyle of the Satmar chasidim, who insist on the strict rules of modesty. "I see it as a blessing that we need to learn about their lifestyle," said one juror.

The local media reported that there is no physical evidence against Weberman and he has denied the main evidence in the case.

If convicted, Weberman may take a cumulative sentence of decades in prison.

The case has received wide media coverage throughout New York, and the coverage so far has caused enormous damage to the haredi public image.
