Porush, Zeibert and Mozes in Brachfeld: "United!"
יעקב כהן

Heads of Agudath Yisrael gathered together tonight, dressed in Shabbos clothes, including Streimels and Spodiks, at the home of the vice mayor of Modiin Illit, Nachman Benshaya.

On the chapter: Unity and cohesion in Modiin Illit.

But it is hard to turn away from the fact that the joint meeting and unity between the sides-will affect the other sectors in the orthodox community.

Recalling, in the previous elections two headquarters by Agudath Yisrael operated in Modiin Illit. At the head of the first headquarter stood Nachman Benshaya, a Breslev chassid and partner of 'Shlomei Emunim'. The second headquarter was run by Yehoshua Mandel, a Vizhnitz chassid and advisor of MK Menachem Eliezer Mozes, a resident of the Brachfeld neighborhood in the city.

The background for the split between the parties was the failure of Meir Porush at the elections for Mayor in Jerusalem, after which it was difficult for the 'Shlomei Emunim' to go hand in hand with the other sectors of Yahadut Hatorah. There are those who say that part of those who belong to Shlomei Emunim voted for Shas. This time, say the organizers, the sides are adamant to connect and act together for the sake of one list: Yahadut Hatorah.

Amongst those included at the meeting: Deputy Minister of Education-Menachem Eliezer Mozes, Shlomei Emunim Chairman-Meir Porush, Bnei Brak Mayor Substitute, Chanoch Zeibert.

In their speeches the members spoke about unity. "We are united. There is no reason for someone not to vote Yahadut Htaorah because of the past", said Zeibert.

Porush agreed with him. "We are all aware of the need to increase the power of our party in the elections. Concerning recruitment for the army, we are in a situation that did not exist since the establishment of the State of Israel.

Deputy Minister Mozes said that when he is asked, "why not vote for another party"-he answers that the reason is simple: "There is no other party that their MK's are accessible to each and every one of the voters. The success of the Torah world since the establishment of the State of Israel is credited to the success of Yahadut Hatorah. The challenges standing before us are complicated."

Zeibert proposed to establish a joint headquarters for all the communities, and work personally on every one of the voters. "In the national action plan we will also work in a similar way", he said. "Our target is to bring out everyone who belongs to Agudath Yisrael to the polls."

Zeibert said, that the movement closed a national headquarters in Ohr Yehuda, and that "we are starting our preparations for the elections already today, unlike in the past."

Benshaya said: "Unlike the secular parties, our representatives are professionals and not communication wizards."

Also representatives of other communities present at the meeting said, no community has any personal problem with their associates and "everyone wants to be united."
