New phenomenon: tombs have recently been turned into arbitration sites, including criminal underworld friends, who come to settle accounts in a positive spirit and mediation of legislated arbitrators, reports the weekend 'Mako' magazine website.
According to 'Mako' the most popular tombs are the Rashb"y in Meron, The Ar"i grave at the cemetery in Safed, and grave of the Baba Sali in Netivot. The arbitration usually occurs at night, when these places are mostly empty.
Sometimes, according to the Mako magazine's investigation, criminals prefer to go to the tombs of Tzaddikim in Morocco, to hold the arbitration between them, and some even fly to Uman, Ukraine, to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman.
For example, you can see shiny cars stop near the tomb of the Baba Sali, the favorite of the offenders, and are emitted one by one the number by men, including veterans selectors of the underworld, and after they wear a white cap on their heads, step inside for arbitration. Two guards on each side are sent to patrol around the grave, to warn the arrival of the police, whose hands they may fall into like a ripe fruit.
The arbitrator explained to Mako, why they prefer this place: "This place has something spiritual which sorcerers you and gives you energy and peace to fateful decisions. At the grave of this holy man, who we all believe in, I save people's lives and make decisions for everyone. Once we used to do the arbitration in a cafe - just close the place or the restaurant and around a good meal or a cup of coffee close our eyes. But today the best place is at the tombs."
Before the start of the arbitration, the arbitrator takes out a sefer Tehillim with a small portrait of the Baba Sali and puts it on the concrete table at the grave compound. Then, he pulls out a bottle of whisky from a bag and a bottle of grapefruit juice, and pours it into small glasses. The rival offenders drink 'Lechaim', and at the request of the arbitrator shake hands to start the discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
At the hearings, sometimes the tones rise and the parties start talking about assassinations and beheadings, but the arbitrator reminds them that they are at the grave of the saint, and there's no place here for such expressions and then the guys relax...
According to the arbitrator, the majority of offenders come from religious or observant homes. This background makes them respect rabbis. They are afraid to violate the oath given at the grave and almost all have arbitration agreements.
Evaluating sources close to the field of delinquency say that between four and six arbitrations are held in Israel every month.
The police also know to use the power of the graves of the righteous. For example, they decoded the murder of the girl Shaked Shilchov a"h after the police took the offender Yaron Sankar to the Baba Sali grave, and made him confess which revealed the identity of the killers.
