Mofaz's advisor of the steering committee of Kadima: Olmert

Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will be a member of the steering committee to determine its list ahead of the 19th Knesset; Kadima confirmed this evening (Tuesday). The meaning of the move is that Olmert joins Kadima Chairman Shaul Mofaz, and will not support 'Hatnua' of Tzipi Livni. Apparently, Olmert is not expected to run for the 19th Knesset elections.

According to the party's decision, MK Shaul Mofaz chairman of Kadima, former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Akko Mayor Shimon Lankry will stand at the head of the commission and serve as consultants to the chairman of the assembly list.

"Kadima will place the highest quality list for the upcoming elections," said Mofaz. "We are united, I believe the Kadima team's ability to succeed in the elections, it is time to start working together, and we will succeed."

Mofaz's and Olmert's move will make it difficult for Livni and the six members of the Knesset who want to split from Kadima, who hoped that after Olmert will announce he is not running for the Knesset ekections, they will manage to recruit a 7th MK from Kadima - and split the party.

Now, with Olmert's involvement in Kadima, the chances to find a 7th MK which will enable them to win the party funding fee, necessary for Livni's election campaign, are low.

Yesterday Olmert managed to torpedo in the last minute the case of MK Doron Avital, who was supposed to be a 7th MK. If Avital was connected to Livni, the Knesset Committee would have convened today to confirm the split.
