Mikveh burglar found a treasure: Tobacco box belonging to the Chebiner Gaon zt"l

Do you recognize the man in the picture? This is the Mikveh thief who stole-a tobacco box belonging to the Chebiner Gaon zt"l.

Three weeks ago a tobacco box was stolen, which is considered an expensive Judaic item, estimated worth of tens of thousands of dollars, from an old man's pocket in the Mikveh on Rashi Street in Bnei Brak. Together with the box a sum of 8,000 NIS was stolen. Until now the thief was not arrested.

The box which was used by the Chebiner Gaon zt"l, was passed on as a token of appreciation to Rav Yechizkel Clagsbaldt z"l, for his devotion to the Gaon during the Bukhara exile during the second world war. Before his death he passed the box on to one of the seniors in the city-from whom the box was stolen.

On that same Thursday at 4:28, the thief arrived at the Mikveh, and rummaged through the trousers of the tobacco box owner. He stole it together with 8,000 NIS, which the old man was supposed to pay that day to a nursing care worker.

The thief concealed his face whilst passing the first CCTV at the Mikveh, but at the second camera his face was clearly caught.

The family members of the tobacco box owner request that whoever identifies the thief should contact the police. In addition they ask of Judaic dealers not to trade the box, since it was stolen from its owner.
