The saga that began yesterday at the Tshebin yeshiva, when a Yeshiva graduate stole 40 pairs of tefillin – reached its successful conclusion at dawn.

The Roshei Yeshiva realized that if they want to find a quick and effective solution to restore the 40 pairs of tefillin, they will have to involve Hashomrim organization, and not rely only on police, works slowly and waits for one to file a complaint, as ordered.

The organization members came to the yeshiva, and after hearing the details they thought up of an individual action plan.

With implicit methods and in light of the experience accumulated, they managed to track down the thief's trail, and came to his home late at night. The thief was surprised by the guests, who were wearing police uniforms. They demanded of him to immediately return the tefillin, and if not, so they threatened, he will absorb losses on both social and criminal levels. The man panicked and gave them the stolen tefillin.

When the Talmidim arrived at the yeshiva hall, with the break of dawn, they saw to their delight 35 pairs of tefillin waiting on the table for their owners. At this point, they were still missing five pairs of tefillin, which for some reason the thief did not give back.

Joy rose at the yeshiva, as expected.

"I got involved with gray market"

The story began yesterday afternoon, when talmidim of the Kochav Yaakov -Tshebin yeshiva located on Hanna street in Jerusalem, ate lunch in the dining room, someone entered the cloakroom, which has a large cabinet in which the yeshiva students put their tefillin. The cloakroom is not protected and the thief managed to get away with forty pairs of tefillin - and disappeared.

Usually there is a security guard in front of the yeshiva, but the thief took advantage of a moment of his absence and evaporated. Towards evening, the phone rang in the public and one of the bochurim picked up the phone: "Listen, boy," he addressed the anonymous student in fluent Yiddish, "Tell your Roshei Yeshiva that I took forty pairs of tefillin from the yeshiva today. IF they want to get them back, they must place tonight an amount of 25,000 dollars, at the water fountain installed in Har Hamenuchos in Jerusalem. If not, I will sell them. "

The stunned talmid questioned the thief. It turns out that the latter was a graduate of the yeshiva, and the action was carried out in retaliation for the sum of $ 25,000, he had requested as a loan from the charity fund of chossons of the yeshiva - but was refused.

The latter further explained his actions: "I ran into a harsh financial situation and I got involved with the gray market. I owe them seventy-five thousand dollars. Fifty thousand have been able to achieve, and twenty-five thousand I ask as a 'loan.' This is really Pikuach Nefesh after I got a series of threats from them which will cost my life. unless I get the money, I'd have to hurt my son or myself. I have no choice. "

The boy rushed to involve the heads of the yeshiva in the affair. The Mashgiach turned to one of the Rabbonim of Jerusalem who instructed him that he should try to raise the money from several generous people to restore the theft.

Meanwhile, the police were called. Two police officers who arrived, checked the site but did not bother to take fingerprints. After questioning conducted with the yeshiva staff, the police said: "The boys should file a police complaint and then a file is opened."

Only after 'Hashomrim' were involved in the case, they identified the thief and the tefillin were returned to the yeshiva.
