About 30 percent of haredim who received a first order since last August, with the expiration of the Tal Law, and appeared in the recruit centers, received a draft notice for the recruitment this summer, according to a report by "Israel Today".
A military source informed the newspaper that "the rate of appearance after receipt of the order and the beginning of the integration process in the army is even greater than 30 percent, and cooperation to date is high." However, he stressed that the recruits themselves are supposed to occur only in the summer of 2013, and that at this stage one cannot predict the actual recruiting.
In addition, military officials noted that up to the draft stage there can be political processes that will affect the recruitment of haredim. Currently the Personnel department is sending about 15 thousand first orders to haredim born between 1994 and 1995. The IDF is trying to suit the candidates to the recruitment process, so that, for example, they will be interviewed by men and not by women.
Before the expiration of the law, haredim would show up in the centers to obtain deferment. The IDF feared very low percentage of appearance of Haredim in the centers after the expiration of the Tal Law.
It should be noted that a variety of work is underway in the IDF towards the recruitment, to create separate service frameworks tailored to their needs. The recruit of haredim to the army existed even before the expiration of the Tal Law, and during the past year more than 2,000 haredim served in the Shahar and Nachal Haredi programs.
