Reservists attacked Harav Dov Lior, chief rabbi of Kiryat Arba - Hebron, when he arrived in the reserves battalion during Operation Pillar of Cloud.
The story is told by Amos Netzer, in the name of a reserve soldier in the infantry battalion of the 46th armored brigade 401 on Facebook, and he defines it as: "The most striking heroic story I've heard so far about fighters who were driven by Order 8 in Operation Pillar of Cloud."
The post was posted in the social network last Friday, and since then has gained dozens of responses – from across the spectrum.
According to Netzer, Harav Lior came to the battalion after being invited by a family member, "The Rav was approached by a soldier from the battalion named Omer Prater – who will be called Abu. Abu Ask the Rabbi: 'Did you sign your consent to the book "The King's Torah"? The Rav reached out to shake Abu's hand. Abu refused his hand and the Rav asked, 'Can I not come to talk with soldiers?' Abu answered: 'You are a persona non grata here.' "
However, the religious soldiers in the battalion gathered for a talk with the Rav.
"On the side, stood four soldiers," writes Netzer. "The four open their cellular phones with low battery, took down from the internet quotes from "The King's Torah", and shouted them out loud. They reminded his part of incitement which led to the murder of Rabin, after publishing that he is considered a Rodef, and thus allowed his blood."
According to him, the Rav finished his talk after five minutes and left. Finally Netzer writes about the case: "I'm proud of my friends who stood up for the truth and exposed the true face of one of the biggest agitators in the country."
In response, he said, Netzer received dozens of comments on his personal Facebook page, as well as other pages across the network which published the story, "I do not favor extremism," wrote one of the surfers. "But lately, people are taking advantage of the social networks to perform character assassination, causing further incitement." Another surfer wrote: "You call this a story of heroism? Shame on you. They all became suddenly "noble". Go beg the Arabs."
