The British weekly Sunday Times published this morning (Sunday) that Israel's spy satellites have identified a ship anchored in the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran, loaded with rockets and other weapons.
According to the publication, quoted this morning in Ma'ariv, intelligence experts estimated that the shipment is intended to reach Gaza through the Red Sea, Sudan and Egypt, in order to rebuild the military capabilities of Hamas after Israel inflicted considerable damage to it in Operation Pillar of Cloud.
According to the report the cargo was prepared for loading last week. Israeli intelligence believes that it will be transferred from Iran to Sudan. "We believe that Iranian warships anchored in Eritrea will accompany the weapons ship as soon as it will enter the Red Sea," an Israeli source told Ma'ariv.
Apparently the cargo includes Fajr-5 missiles of the type fired at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in the last round of fighting. It is possible that on the ship are also components of Shahab 3 ballistic missile which can be placed in Sudan and directly threaten Israel.
Deputy head of Hamas's political bureau, Musa Abu Marzouq, told the AP news agency that the organization is not going to stop the production of weapons and rockets or the smuggling of weapons through tunnels from Egypt.
Yesterday it was reported that Hamas leader in Gaza, Mahmoud al - Zahar, said his organization will continue to arm itself with the assistance of Iran, despite the cease-fire with Israel. "We have no choice but to continue to bring weapons into Gaza, in every possible way," he said, adding that he expects that Tehran will enhance the military and economic assistance to Hamas. "We have the right to take money and weapons from Iran. They give us without conditions," he said.
Last month, a series of explosions occurred in the military facility El Yarmouk, in South Sudan's capital Khartoum. Sudanese government officials claimed that four Israeli warplanes bombed a weapons factory in Khartoum, in which, it is argued, Iran built long-range missiles.
