Yeshiva students of Kiryat Malachi, led by Rabbi Yehuda Amit, rubbed their eyes in disbelief: Today (Tuesday), they hosted a solidarity visit at the yeshiva - no less than the leaders of 'Camp suckers', who are leading the struggle to recruit yeshiva students to the IDF.
In middle of the visit there was an air raid siren, and the yeshiva students and guests rushed to the yeshiva's shelter.
The yeshiva students as is their custom read Psalms in midst of the siren, and their guests also joined the prayer.
Boaz Nol, Tomer Mintz and Asaf Berzhano, leaders of 'Camp suckers' and 'Burden Equality Forum', calling for recruitment of yeshiva students to the army, held a solitary tour in the south. In a joint initiative with the Chairman of 'Tov' Chanoch Werdyger, members of the group also visited the Orthodox yeshiva in Kiryat Malachi which operates under fire.
The tour began with a discussion with the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Amit. In middle of the meeting there was an air raid siren, and the whole gang rushed to the shelter of the yeshiva with the students. Yeshiva students started reading the Psalms and the guests joined in the prayer. "It was a moving experience" said Boaz Nol, "I felt the power of prayer in the heart of the bombardment which landed in the city. It certainly did something to us."
After the air raid the group returned to visit the Beit Midrash, where the yeshiva students returned to their learning.
"The purpose of the meeting," says Werdyger, "was to convey our shared existence in Israel in these difficult times which is beyond the point of controversy. We must express clear boundaries of disagreement between the parties. We should not forget for a moment that we are one nation with a co-existence in Israel."
"We came here to say that during these hours we rise above the controversy and strengthen the residents of the south, including the southern yeshiva students who continue their studies even in an emergency. During these days our message is transcending the differences," explained Boaz Nol.
The tour continued to Sderot which was shelled by Qassam rockets. There they met at the city war room with soldiers from the Home Front Command, and Mayor David Buskila, and strengthened them and the residents.
