Mystery solved: Why dozens of children broke their arms

At the Satmar Talmud Torah in Borough Park, Brooklyn the administration and teachers were troubled by a strange phenomenon: for a few weeks almost every week children fell and injured their hands. The injuries sustained were broken limbs and the children were bandaged with a cast.

Dedicated teachers reinforced during recess, and warned the children playing dangerous games. But the phenomenon of breaking hands strangely repeated itself.

Kalman Philip, one teacher at the cheder, said that late last week he suggested that one of the staff members should check the mezuzah placed at the entrance to the Talmud Torah building. The manager claimed that the mezuzah is relatively new and was written by a sofer who is a Talmid Chacham and Yirei Shamayim. However it was decided to remove the mezuzah - and check its kashrus.

One teacher who is also a senior sofer performed the test, and his astonishment was boundless: a letter in the word "ידך" in the mezuzah was faulty.

The mezuzah was corrected and returned to its place - and the falls, so they say, ceased.

The news spread quickly and became the talk of the day -by all news lovers in the haredi concentrations.
