"Kill the bastard" • "The Times" presents: The assassination of Ahmed Jabari

This is how Ahmed Jabari was assassinated: British newspaper "The Times" published last weekend an extensive article reviewing the 'Pillar of Defense' military operation of the IDF, including a description of how the head of Hamas's military wing was assassinated, using information passed by a GSS agent.

According to the report, the Air Force had a timeframe of 30 seconds to eliminate Jabari.

The sequence of events according to "The Times" was this: the agent located Jabari last week, despite efforts to live in hiding, moving in different cars and hiding in sheltered houses. Last Wednesday, the agent noticed that he was leaving his hiding place, and at 15:00 he sent a message to his handlers in Tel Aviv.

The message was passed onto Chief of Staff, Benny Gantz, who passed the message on. According to the report, the message stated that Jabari will be exposed for 30 seconds while traveling on Omar Mukhtar, one of the main arteries of the city of Gaza. The agent estimated that at the end of the short trip, Jabari is expected to transfer to another car, one of some ten vehicles used for his movement and hiding.

The newspaper reports that Jabari was not aware that the car he was driving at the time - a silver Kia - was under surveillance of Israel, and the two aircrafts with no pilot were immediately ordered to lock it. According to the report, the air force commander, Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel, who was at the corps headquarters in Tel Aviv, at 15:55 gave the order to "kill the bastard".

According to the report, the missiles fired at the car of Jabari also killed one of his sons, who were sitting beside him. The newspaper quotes a statement made by another son of Jabari, Ahmed aged 18, when he described the daily fear felt by the family: "Our life were not similar to those of other children. We adopted pseudonyms in school in order to hide our identity. Sometimes, we had already forgotten our real names," he said last week.
