A miracle occurred today (Tuesday) on Chachmei Yosef Street in Bayit Vegan in Jerusalem: A three-year-old was forgotten in a neighbor's car since the morning. But unlike the tragedy which took place two and a half months ago in Modi'in Illit, then the 4 year old Chanoch Henoch Baumel died, this time, due to the cold weather – she was found unharmed.
An initial investigation of the Jerusalem Police indicates that the girl and her sister went out in the morning to school and kindergarten. A neighbor apparently volunteered to drive them, took the big girl to school, and did not notice the 3-year-old sister was forgotten in the car.
The neighbor parked his car, a jeep, near his home - and went home.
In the afternoon when the girl's parents came to the kindergarten to fetch her, about four hours after she left her home, they discovered that she had not come to kindergarten that morning. They turned to their neighbors, they rushed down to the car, and found the girl unharmed.
The driver was detained for questioning.
Moti, a MDA-Hatzalah medic who arrived on the scene, said: "I found the girl at home, after being extracted from the vehicle which was parked in an underground parking - garage under the building housing. The girl was examined and vital signs were taken to make sure that she does not suffer from dehydration or other medical problems. After a round of tests, she was taken by MDA ambulance for further extensive testing at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital. The little girl was very frightened and it was evident that she had passed hours of stress and anxiety.
The Hatzalah organization ask again to refine procedures and guidelines for parents and shuttle drivers, and ask to please scan the vehicle after each trip, thus denying the existence of another passenger who might have fallen asleep during the trip.
