A joint exercise of the IDF and the U.S. Army reached its peak today (Monday) when four Patriot missiles were launched from the base Palmachim to the sea.

These launches are part of the final week of the exercise which began yesterday, which was attended by about 1,000 American soldiers - along with Israeli soldiers and officers.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that the joint exercise is "an expression of the deep cooperation between us and the Americans, and matching of systems for possible future testing. The drill also proves the old and veteran systems still work smoothly and provide the results."

The Austere Challenge 2012 drill is the largest combined exercise conducted between the two armies. The exercise, which began in late October and the end of the week, is part of a routine training program designed to improve cooperation between the air defense systems of the two armies.
