An internal investigation of Israel Railways Chain are checking serious deficiencies in the train conduct, causing severe desecration of Shabbat on Parshat Lech-Lecha, the Ynet website reveals.
According to the investigation, on October 26th seven thirty in the morning, serious disruptions were caused on the coastline - the main line of Israel Railways due to infrastructure and checkpoint problems.
Because of this there were significant train delays. Disruptions were exacerbated as a result of failure of the railway signaling system, and created chain defects which began less than an hour before Shabbat.
Close to Shabbat it was agreed that trains will stop at stations next to their location and the company will summon buses for the passengers to transport them to their destination stations so that there will not be Shabbat desecration by the train company.
But due to weak coordination not all ranks on the train were aware of the bus summoning.
When Shabbat started an order went around that "there is further confirmation for train trips on Shabbat since summoning the buses and the amount of time it will take for them to arrive will take longer than transporting train passengers to their destination - and in any case will take until after Shabbat."
Eventually, the buses summoned left, but half an hour later their destination was changed. According to the report, Egged buses left the station an hour and a quarter after Shabbat began, at -17:45.
In total, from Haifa center, seven buses and five vans were operated, and all set off after Shabbat began.
Conclusions of the investigation indicate that the procedure was not regulated to coordinate with such an emergency. There were conflicting decisions and lack of coordination between departments at Israel Railways.
At some stations there were no directors to give information to passengers as part of the station managers completed their work, without finding a replacement.
Railways management declined to comment for publication.
