Baruch Dayan Haemes: On Shabbos, the Chabad 'mashpia' Rabbi Shimon Yacobowitz zt"l passed away at the Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem, at the age of 83, following a terrible illness.
The father of the deceased, married his wife, the daughter of the righteous Rabbi Aryeh Levin zt"l, the father in law of Rav Elyashiv zt"l.
He served as a teacher in the Talmud Torah Meah Shearim of Jerusalem, and was a 'mashpia' in the Chabad synagogue on Baal Hatania Street in the neighborhood.
Acquaintances talk about the great man who was always humble and always kept to himself.
He had a special relationship with his uncle Hagaon Rabbi Elyashiv. Following the death of his uncle he said that in the past when the families were smaller, the family ties were also closer. "Every Shabbos afternoon before Mincha I came along with my family to the Elyashiv home. I was at home there, "he said.
He passed away after suffering a malignant disease.
He is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Masha Rachel, and a beautiful generation of sons and daughters: Rabbi Yaakov Chaim Yacobowitz from Tzefat, Mrs. Devorah Eisenbach from Jerusalem, Mrs. Leah Sheinfeld from Beit Shemesh, Rabbi Tuvia Yacobowitz from Kfar Chabad, Mrs. Feiga Eisenbach from Jerusalem, Rabbi Yitzchak Yacobowitz from Jerusalem, Rabbi Mordechai Yacobowitz from Betar Illit, and Rabbi Elchanan Yacobowitz from Bnei Brak.
The funeral will leave tonight (Saturday) at 22:00 from his home on Chayei Adam Street in Jerusalem.
