After the war against the Metzitza at circumcision, a new New-York law initiated by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, prevents food donation to the poor.
Glenn Richter is a New York Chessed personality who has the practice to collect food for the poor and homeless. When he tried to pick up bagels for the poor, the New York 'food police' prevented him.
The new law requires strict control over food donations and checking their nutritional value. Foods with no nutritional value approved by the authorities – is banned for transfer to the needy.
To oversee the transfer of food, a special supervision force was established, which is a joint effort of the health and welfare authorities of New York.
Richter says that he used to donate cholent and carrot stew, but these were returned by the authorities - claiming these are not healthy foods: "For many years my family grew up on this food. My father lived to 97 and fed on cholent. Why should this food now be prohibited ? "
"Over the years," says Richter, "I donated tens of tons of food to homeless and needy. Now this thing is about to stop, Bloomberg disturbs people from doing kindness with others."
