Tunnel bomb exploded near the Gaza border
Tunnel bomb exploded on the border of the Gaza Strip • One Jeep at the point went flying as a result of the blast and damaged • by miracle there were no injuries to people: a soldier was hit very slightly
A tunnel bomb exploded tonight (Thursday) during an IDF operation in the southern Gaza Strip to detect explosives - no forces were hit.
IDF spokesman, Brigadier General Yoav Polly Mordechai, said that in recent weeks several events occurred in the southern Gaza Strip – a bomb, wounding the commander and another load two days ago. Following this, new division commander decided to act proactively west of the fence.
Engineering workforce operating in the area identified a number of explosive devices. After completing the activity, during actions to rectify the fence, there was an explosion of a tunnel-trapped bomb under Lubbers axis. This is a very large explosion which uncovered a tunnel at a depth of four meters and a width of four meters. An empty IDF vehicle was blown into the air due to the explosion and damaged. A soldier was very slightly injured but did not require evacuation.
IDF spokesman estimated that "We understand that this is a bomb tunnel or tunnel designed for other things because there was a gap between the explosion and the neutralization. This is a very large tunnel, we have not experienced recently. The division commander was the area of the incident. The activity was hosted by the Mao"g Gaza-bound, Mickey Edelstein.
Scans will continue tomorrow morning and will continue to assess the situation under the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Tal Russo.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday that Israel is strongly opposed to the tunnel bomb explosion in Gaza Strip, south of Kissufim. Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that Israel views Hamas as responsible and will examine how and when to respond.
