Tragedy in Ashdod: Rabbi Simcha Bunim Erstein passed away this morning (Thursday), at age 20, after suffering acute pneumonia. On Shabbos he was hospitalized at the Sheba Tel Hashomer hospital. Yesterday his condition improved, but unfortunately this morning, he returned his soul to its Creator.

The deceased was born in Israel, to his father Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Erstein, educator at the Talmud Torah Lev Simha in Ashdod. During his childhood and youth he studied at the Ger Torah institutions and at the Beis Yisrael Yeshiva in Ashdod.

Acquaintances and friends indicate a remarkable young man who studied with wondrous consistency and pure piety.

Last month of Tammuz, he married his wife, the daughter of Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Safranovich from Bnei Brak, a senior official at the 'Union of Ger Institutions, and the granddaughter of Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Safranovich, chairman of 'Tohar Hamachane', and veteran activist of modesty. Her mother is the daughter of Zvi Harska Golmov, a leading Gerrer chassid.

This is the second tragedy which has struck upon the Ernstein family. A few years ago, his sister passed away, after being in coma for a few years.

The funeral will leave today (Thursday) at 13:30 pm from his parents' home in Ashdod, and at 15:00 from the Gerrer Kollel on Rabbi Meltzer Street in Bnei Brak, to the Kiryat Shaul cemetery in Tel Aviv, where he will be buried.
