"Eliyahu from the cemetery" severely injured in a car accident

Terrible car accident in Ashdod: At about 17:30 pm a passing vehicle hit a pedestrian while crossing the road not on the crossroads on Rishonim Street in Rovah A. The 72 year old pedestrian was severely hit.

Volunteer medics from Hatzalah, along with MDA teams, gave him primary health care, and he was evacuated whilst anesthetized and ventilated, to the Sheba-Tel Hashomer hospital.

Traffic examiners from the Lacish Police station arrived at the scene to examine the circumstances of the accident. They questioned the offending vehicle driver, who said her version - and was released.

Avraham Forges, a Hatzalah volunteer told B'Chadrei Charedim, that the victim is a highly appreciated figure in the city: "Everyone in Ashdod knows Eliyahu from the cemetery. Apparently he walked to nearby synagogue for Maariv. We gave him primary health care, but his condition deteriorated during the evacuation to the hospital, resuscitation attempts were made and his condition is critical.

"For many years Eliyahu has served as the gravedigger in the cemetery, and had given so much of him there. He recently retired for pension. He was a familiar and cheerful figure, much loved by all council employees and residents, who like him very much.
"Next week a memorial service for the anniversary of his wife's death will be held. Eliyahu was halfway through organizing the memorial, and I pray and hope he is able to recover."

"Please, pray for my father that he should recover", his son Yaakov begs, "that he recovers from his critical condition. He has received blood transfusions and is now in the operating room."
