New U.S. president - and Ma'ariv newspaper not updated

For the first time in decades, a strike in Ma'ariv: Daily newspaper and NRG website, not updated since yesterday evening.

The reason: The working committee of journalists revealed disturbing details and outlined gaps in the implementation of the agreement signed with them.

Yesterday (Tuesday) a meeting of journalistic news desk system was held where everyone was updated on the negotiations with the new buyer of the paper, Shlomo Ben-Zvi. After the update, it was decided to go on strike.

Today layoffs are expected to take place at the newspaper board. However the committee has updated that it still has not been announced how many journalists will remain in the paper, which supplements will stay and which will be closed, what will be the structure of the paper and more.

Representatives of the purchaser Shlomo Ben Zvi offered lower wages for workers than they earned until today. Also, entire departments were contacted for employment for a temporary period, contrary to the collective agreement.

Workers introduced new management requirements, which they were requested to fill in until 22:00.

Since the board is not in contact with the leadership of the workers, a general strike was declared in the paper and on the website.

"We are not prepared for this to be the first breach of the collective agreement," said the chairman of the conference, Chagai Matar. "This is elimination of organized labor in Ma'ariv".
