When your brother makes a siyum you come!
Especially when it is a siyum on all of Shas or on a five year Halacha program. That is why the grand finale of Dirshu’s first Shabbos Kinnus Olam HaTorah will be the Melave Malka seudah which will feature three festive siyumim and addresses by leading Gedolei Yisroel such as Hagaon Harav Berel Povarsky, shlita, Hagaon Harav Elya Ber Wachtfogel, shlita, the Vienner Rov, Hagaon Harav Asher Anshel Katz, shlita, among many others. That is why Dirshu is opening the doors of the Grand Ball Room of the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown, NY, for the general public, so that all of Klal Yisroel can celebrate together, with their hundreds of brothers who have merited completing Shas and other important areas of halacha; who have not only merited finishing but have also taken tests and achieved exceptional results!
According to Rabbi Ahron Gobioff, Dirshu’s North American Director, “Dirshu has become an important mass movement in Klal Yisroel that is having a transformational effect. That transformation is the fact that so many Yidden from all over the world, from all walks of life are seeking yedias haTorah in all areas of Torah. They are approaching this by following a plan. The plan enables the serious Jew, regardless of who he is, regardless of whether he is in kollel or in the workforce, to learn and master large areas of Torah and really know them enough to be tested on them.
“Recently, hundreds of our fellow Jews from North America joined thousands of their counterparts in Eretz Yisroel and finished Shas! Hundreds of other Dirshu Kinyan Halacha members finished all areas of Shulchan Aruch requisite to become a posek. Just two weeks ago, thousands of Daf HaYomi B’Halacha members finished the 4th chelek of Mishna Berurah on the difficult halachos of Eiruvin. This calls for a celebration, for a massive seudas mitzvah - not just for those who have completed Shas and mastered so much but for all members of Klal Yisroel. After all, your brother is making a siyum on Shas, you really should be there taking note of his accomplishment, reveling in the special kavod haTorah and kvelling over the fact that so much of Hashem Yisborach’s Torah is being learned in a way that until now seemed an impossible dream!”
An Event with One Agenda; Promoting Limud HaTorah
The Gemara teaches us that the tana, Rav Yosef said, “Even when one person makes a siyum it is a reason to celebrate.” How much more so when such a large, significant swath of Klal Yisroel makes a siyum after having learned and been tested on the entire Shas! That calls for a true siyum where everyone is invited!
It is for that reason that Dirshu has invited the general public to join them at the siyum, to sit together with the mesyamim and celebrate with their brothers, to dance with live music and to hear the moving, powerful words of Gedolei Yisroel who will passionately address the true call of the hour for Klal Yisroel. It is for that reason that bussing from Lakewood, Brooklyn and Monsey is being provided, to ensure that everyone is able to come celebrate with their brothers.
One prominent American Rosh Yeshiva who will be participating put it succinctly, “How can I not participate? This is an event with no agenda other than increasing limud haTorah among Klal Yisroel. It is, simply put, a celebration of dedication to learning. We are just coming to celebrate with Yidden who have invested days and nights over the span of many years to learn, chazer and be tested. How can I not come?”
Indeed, the only agenda is promoting learning and trying to encourage more and more people to join one of Dirshu’s programs and maximize their own limud haTorah.
If one wonders how the hallways will look at the Shabbos and Motzoei Shabbos Kinnus Olam HaTorah, one just has to recall the recent airplane ride to Eretz Yisroel taken by a number of Dirshu participants who merited joining the World Siyum in Eretz Yisroel.
Throughout that long flight most of the conversation revolved around learning. The Dirshu Shabbos Kinnus Olam HaTorah promises to be no different. It will not be uncommon to see a kollel yungerman from Lakewood discussing a difficult Tosafos in Masechta Shabbos with a Chassidishe Yid from Williamsburg. It will be perfectly normal to see a Daf HaYomi B’Halacha participant from Far Rockaway discussing the eiruv in the hotel with his counterpart - a businessman from Monsey. It will be perfectly normal to hear a heated discussion, “rischa d’Oirasya” between a Gerer kollel yungerman from Boro Park participating in the Kinyan Halacha program and his counterpart, a Litvishe kollel yungerman from Kensington as they debate the various shitos on hagalas keilim as it pertains to commercial kitchens. This is the type of casual conversation typical of a Dirshu event. After all, learning with Dirshu becomes such an integral part of the participants’ lives that it becomes their sichas chulin, their normal conversation.
Special Program for Dirshu Wives; the Behind the Scenes Heroines
Similarly, the ezras noshim will be a clear manifestation of the unique bond with Torah that Dirshu families posses. When the wife of a Dirshu participant comes to an event such as the Shabbos of Chizuk or the gala Melave Malka she is coming as a true shutaf, a true partner in her husband’s limud haTorah. She lives and breathes the same test schedule, she willingly sacrifices her husband’s assistance in the home at some of the most important “rush hours” of the day so that he can learn. She also has that little pit in her stomach when her husband sets off to take his monthly test and asks her for a quick bracha for success as he leaves the house and she also revels in his success when the long anticipated envelope arrives with his latest test score. The Dirshu wives will thus be able to come together with women from all walks of Klal Yisroel; perhaps they will look different; they may come from different communities, but they will have so much in common! They will be bound together as one by the only true unifier of Klal Yisroel, limud haTorah hakedosha!Inspirational Shabbos Program Culminating in Grand Siyum Open to the Public
At this juncture the Dirshu Shabbos is completely sold out. Hundreds of Dirshu participants will be participating in what promises to be a most inspiring, remarkable Shabbos celebrating limud haTorah. There will be stimulating programs for both men and women. Some of the highlights include a Friday night drasha by HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Sorotzkin, shlita, a special open sheilos and teshuvos forum with the Skverer Dayan, HaGaon HaRav Yechiel Michel Shteinmetz, shlita, one of the most prominent poskim in Boro Park, and a shiur from Rav Berel Povarsky. The women’s programming on Shabbos will feature speeches and shiurim from well known mechanchos and speakers, Mrs. Shaindy Bluming, Mrs. Yael Kaisman and Mrs. Channy Feldbrand.
Without a doubt the Keynote session on Motzoei Shabbos featuring the Grand Siyum / Melave Malka that is open to the general public promises to be a extraordinary maamad with the participation of tens of leading gedolim, moving drashos and an outpouring of extraordinary simcha, singing and dancing, as the mesaymim and their ‘brothers’ celebrate incredible limud haTorah accomplishments. While there is no fee to join, RSVP is required. The number is 888-5-DIRSHU, extension 115. It is one of those events that you don’t want to miss!
