Less than a day left until the opening of the U.S. elections, it seems that the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, can be encouraged by last-minute surveys: Rasmussen Survey Institute, published today (Monday) gives him 49% vs. 48% to the incumbent president, Barack Obama.
The survey findings are still within the sampling error. Most polls in recent days show equality between the candidates. For example, according to the last survey published by CNN, they have a draw of 49%.
Assembly elections held tonight in Wisconsin, referred to U.S. President Barack Obama's accomplishments in the field of security: "The war in Iraq ended, the war in Afghanistan comes to an end and bin Laden is dead," the president said enthusiastically. "We are making progress, but we still have a lot of work. But if we did not act, we would still be stuck in the bushes (of Bush). Our struggle continues.
"Wisconsin, tomorrow you decide not only between the two leaders, two political parties," Obama addressed the audience. "Tomorrow you vote for your point of view. I think everyone should have a chance. Everyone will receive health insurance, all of you should be protected, our children should be protected and receive better education."
Romney on the other hand, held an election night rally in Lynchburg Virginia. "Bring everyone who can vote tomorrow," said Romney to voters. "Tomorrow we begin to walk towards a new day. Barak Obama promised to change - but has not provided us with change. I know how to make a change; I have already changed many things."
"When I'll be President - I will not spend my time blaming charges against the previous administration," Romney continued. "I look forward, not backward. If the president is re-elected - he cannot get to work with people from Congress. He does not talk to them. I need your support. We're going to win with Virginia."
