For hours thousands of residents of Givah B in Beitar Illit had to deal with a significant water supply mishap.
In the morning, during construction work performed on Kedushat Levi Street in the city, the main water pipe exploded - probably due to an employee's slip up. Consequently, since the afternoon, the water did not reach the taps of the residents in Givah B.
"We could not cook, bathe the children for bed, or any other act which requires water," says a resident of Yismach Yisrael Street to B'Chadrei Charedim. Another resident in the city told B'Chadrei Charedim that last week the electricity company performed infrastructure work on the corner of Haran and Kedushat Levi Street, where the water pipe leading to Givah B is placed.
Later, for the benefit of residents, the municipality dispersed water trucks which were placed throughout the Givah.
The problem started at about 15:40, when thousands of phone calls began to reach the city center, and the epicenter reinforced with more workers to take calls. Only at approximately 19:00 did most residents of the Givah have their water back.
However, at 20:00 - at the top of the street of Kedusaht Levi and Haran there is still no water in the homes.
According to the residents, water distribution centers were not calculated sufficiently. Near the villa compound on the corner of Chabad Street and Mezhritz – a water tank was installed, conversely, on Kedushat Levi, where at least 500 families live; a water tank was not placed.
According to the municipality, water supply was returned to the homes of residents in each area except the street where the mishap took place, "there is a very low water flow," said another resident who lives down the street from where the error occurred. "You cannot say that problem has been eliminated completely," he adds.
The municipality added: "A team of company resources and Shefa and Engineering Department of the municipality is working to fix the problem. We believe that the water supply will resume also on the street where the mishap took place during the evening. "
