A six week old baby died yesterday in Beer Yaakov, apparently due to SIDS. The baby was taken to Assaf Harofeh Hospital where a burial license was released.
In the afternoon, with the introduction of transporting the deceased infant for burial after the purification process, a frantic phone call was received at the Chevra Kadisha: "Bring the baby to Ramle police station. We have a court order for an autopsy".
It turns out the police took the parents to court, and in the absence of representation, the judge determined that an autopsy is necessary. But they were not told that they are entitled to legal representation by a lawyer.
After returning from the court without troops, they were informed that they did not use their legal right for representation during the hearing and their infant son will be taken for an autopsy even though it was after purification and grave clothes.
At around 14:30 the baby's body was taken from Ramle Police Station to the Forensic Institute in Abu Kabir – for an autopsy instead of a funeral.
Coordinator of the Legal Department at Zaka, Michael Gutwein, says in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim: "When it comes to investigating the cause of death, all rights disappear. We have turned from a state of law and democracy to a police state. "
Coastline Region spokesperson Superintendent Leah Zohar, said to B'Chadrei Charedim that Ramla station is investigating for crime that may be the cause of the baby's death and for this reason the body has been sent for examination, and an autopsy at the Forensic Institute will be done for the cause of death.
