Additional storm 'Sandy' damage: 'Shluchim' worldwide Chabad convention organizers, decided to move the location of the central event from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
A few days ago the organizers of the conference still thought that they will manage to meet the schedule for preparation of the Brooklyn cruise lounge, which was flooded. But the owners announced that efforts and resources are directed to those damaged by the storm and need immediate help. Consequently, the event will be moved to three halls at the Hilton Hotel in Manhattan.
This morning (Sunday) head of the Chabad emissaries, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, sent a letter to all emissaries, which also referred to the move of location: "Despite the challenges we face following the hurricane which hit New York City last Tuesday night," he wrote, "We are doing all we can to ensure we complete our plan, including all sessions and workshops that will take place as planned, and with Hashem's help it will be an uplifting and successful convention.
"On Erev Shabbos we received a message from the owners that it would be impossible to hold the event in place, and we fully understand. The explanation is that government and municipality's reconstruction efforts are top priority for those who need it immediately, and resources are designed for those who need it including appropriate emergency and medical service in Staten Island, Red Hook and surrounding areas.
"After a quick examination of the alternatives available to us, in such a short time, while we ensure that all participants will have enough space, it was decided to hold the event at the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan, where the widest hall is located throughout New York City.
The main hall, along with two adjacent halls, will contain this upcoming Sunday 26th MarCheshvan, in maximum comfort - 4600 delegates along with distinguished guests. Several screens will stream the event live and will be dispersed equally in the three halls, so that each participant will be an integral part of the experience of this great and unique evening. Moreover, the program itself on the various parts (speeches, presentations, etc.) will be partly in the great hall and partly in the secondary halls. "
