Story of short circuit, oxygen generator and donation to save lives

Today, (Wed.) a youngster knocked on the door of one of those responsible for the Hatzola Team organization, with an intriguing wish: "I want to contribute to your organization, your on call volunteer saved the life of my grandmother."

The Hatzala man who is not used to this kind of inquiries, asked the young man who sent him to his door to help the organization's activities?

According to the man, his grandmother recently felt ill and suffered from shortness of breath, and called to order medical assistance.

An MDA on call volunteer from 'Hatzala Team' arrived on the scene, he discovered that the older woman is regularly attached to an oxygen generator, due to an illness requiring respiratory assistance and ongoing oxygen flow.

But, for some obscure reason, there was a power failure at her apartment, and thus the oxygen generator was not working. The on call volunteer was resourceful, he ran to the neighbors in the building and began to recruit power cables, but those he found were not long enough, therefore he turned to neighbors in an adjacent building with a desperate plea: "In the building near you is an older woman who needs oxygen, I need urgently electrical cables as a loan to stabilize her condition and to relieve her distress."

After long moments which seemed like eternity, he had in his hands some long cables that ran from one apartment house to the older woman's home. During all those timeless minutes, the old woman received first aid from the oxygen cylinder of the on call volunteer - until the end of the cable lift to her apartment and the return of the oxygen generator's operation.

The dedicated on call volunteer wanted to leave the apartment, but not before the patient thanked him profusely: "You saved my life, I owe you a present, I would like to give you financial compensation for your help." The on call volunteer felt uncomfortable, and refused payment for his activities - something which is his routine. But the woman insisted to be grateful to him for what she called 'successful CPR' on her. Therefore, he referred her to the home of a person responsible for the organization where she could donate for the continued operation to save lives.

Days passed, the on call volunteer did not tell anything to anyone and continued his daily life. But with the arrival of the grandson to give the donation, another circle of a little story about saving lives and resourcefulness, was closed.
