Charlie Abutbul, who is considered a leader of a criminal organization in Netanya, was arrested tonight following the police searching the apartment of Gush Dan, along with four other suspects. Abutbul was arrested on suspicion that Haredim from Rechasim hired his services, in order to blackmail a young orthodox boy from Jerusalem, who was suspected by commissioners of the kidnapping that he stole money from one of their homes.
Abutbul and four suspects will be brought this afternoon to the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court to discuss extending detention. In total there are 12 detainees in the case.
The court prohibited the publication of the details of the victim - a fellow Orthodox resident of Jerusalem - and his family.
The case was permitted to be published yesterday (Tuesday) after the arrest of Haredim from Rechasim and the wife of Charlie Abutbul, and the investigations are being conducted at the Investigation Unit and international serious crime (Crimes), the body in charge of organized crime investigations.
The investigation allegedly revealed that the sum of 900,000 shekels disappeared from an apartment in Rechasim. It is suspected that the landlord and his associates conducted an independent investigation, during which the suspicion increased that the person behind the theft is a boy from Jerusalem, who visited the house. When they hurled the suspicion at him, he denied that he had committed the theft.
It is suspected, that the Haredim contacted Abutbul's crime organization. Abutbul and his men, arrived last Monday in Jerusalem, and whilst threatening him, took the boy in their car and put him in the basement of the Abutbul family's residential building in Netanya.
There, it is suspected that the boy was imprisoned and interrogated by Charlie Abutbul and his people, while they beat him on the head and all over his body, blocking his mouth and threatening to kill him during the whole night.
The investigation revealed that the boy was eventually able to escape from the basement, suffering bruises and fractures in his face, and sought medical attention, and then complained to the police. That same day, Sonia Abutbul was arrested.
Sonia Abutbul's arrest was extended for the third time, until Thursday 1/11. The arrest of David Fadida and Chananya Gabai was extended till Sunday 4/11, the arrest of Aweideh Ayman and Itzik Gabai was extended until 6/11, the arrest of Rafi Meimon will be extended again today in an appeal, and the arrest of another detainee was also extended yesterday today in Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion.
Abutbul denies the allegations held against her. Her attorney, Yaniv Peretz, suggesting that the arrest is an attempt by the police to put pressure on her husband. "It is known and apparent to all that my client is being held hostage until the arrest of the others. My client denies any connection to the events and is being held in custody solely because of her family name."
