Has the stress affected the Elad mayor?
Less than 12 hours have passed since the Elad mayor, Yitzchak Eidan launched a letter to city employees in which he announced the ten percent wage cut, now he announces again, this time in a short letter: "I am suspending the letter until further notice."
Recalling, this morning (Tuesday) municipal workers received notice on wage cuts in accordance with the decision of the plenary session in the municipality last week. The mayor sent a message to the employment committee chairman and manager of religious services, Tomer Cohen, who passed the message on to the employees.
Municipal employees were furious, mainly due to the mayor's shameful conduct recently on religion.
"We turned to the association to declare industrial dispute, whilst also issuing an injunction from the court to work on the unilateral move," Cohen said earlier today. "In addition we will hold a demonstration outside the mayor's office; we have gone out on an unprecedented struggle."
This afternoon it was decided among the workers to turn to the rabbis of the city. It was also decided to update Hagr"a Yosef on the proceedings.
But then a surprising twist came: the mayor sent a short letter by e-mail to his employees, "I am suspending the cuts."
It is not clear what made him do it, but in the municipal corridors employees now record a victory in their struggle.
The mayor's response was not available.
