A family from Jerusalem has been preparing over the last few weeks for the happiest day of their son: On Thursday, they and their relatives were supposed to celebrate the wedding in banquet hall in Brooklyn, New York, to which they were supposed to get by a flight earlier this week.

Hurricane 'Sandy', which struck last night (Monday) across the country, disrupted the plans.

The chosson, a yeshiva student, along with 30 members of his family, were to board a flight earlier this week, "The airline has already told us twice that the flight is postponed," says the father in a conversation with Behadrey Haredim. "Meanwhile, we are stuck in the country, and holding the wedding is under complete fog."

The fiancée of the chosson, who lives in New York, is also in a state of complete uncertainty. The custom of the bride and groom not to communicate a week before the wedding, just makes it worse. "There is a very big uncertainty," says the father. "There is a very big pressure and it is only increasing."

He says they are updated mainly from the media and members of the bride's family, "We understand this morning the storm had struck New York, but you never know if it will be possible for us to go over the next day to the U.S., and manage to hold the wedding on time."

So far, they have not announced the cancellation of the wedding, "we'll be wiser in a few hours, we are in touch with a representative of the airline. Even if we get to the United States on time, we very much hope that we'll find a place to have the wedding," says the father. "The bride's family updated us that many halls closed due to the situation, and it is not clear when they will open again."

The father says that the only thing they do against the "decree" is to pray, "hoping that everything will be okay."
