The Central Security Agency published today (Monday) that the IDF and the ISA recently uncovered extensive terrorist infrastructure of Hamas in Ramallah. So far in this framework 30 Hamas activists were arrested, who were involved in the organization, and missions to revive the activities of Hamas in Judea and Samaria. Two of the detainees are participants in the lynching in Ramallah in 2000.
The court decided to prolong the arrest of the suspects until the end of legal proceedings.
Investigation revealed that the purpose of the organization was to strengthen the power of Hamas in the Palestinian Authority towards elections held this month. The detainees were engaged in providing financial assistance to Hamas prisoners and their families, and in the 'Kutla', strengthening the organization's student cell in universities. Members of the network were in contact with the Hamas leadership abroad for the purpose of information and transfer of funds. They tried to conceal the communication with the commanders of the organization by using fictitious identities, couriers, e-mail boxes, mobile memory cards and secret meetings.
ISA's official statement said that "The affair exposed, once again, the efforts of the Hamas leadership in the area and abroad, to strengthen the grip of the organization in the area, and thus improve its operations."
Prevention activities of the Hamas organization in Ramallah resulted in that in other places in Judea and Samaria was building the infrastructure of the organization was thwarted. According to the investigation, the suspects planned to build the Hamas infrastructure in the vicinity of Hebron and Bethlehem, but the plan was foiled with the arrest of members of the squad. Charges filed against them attribute, among other things, violations of membership and activity in an unlawful association, contact with the enemy and bringing enemy moneys into the area.
Two of the detainees admitted during interrogation that they took part in the murder of Vasi Avrahami and Vadim Norz'itz, two reservists who on 12th October 2000 accidentally entered Ramallah. A Palestinian mob killed the two and mutilated their bodies.
