The affair of the psychiatrist who was arrested and dozens of yeshiva students who were summoned for questioning – an affair which was revealed in Behadrey Haredim – is causing a storm in the Haredi street.
Police continue to interrogate dozens of yeshiva students, who received her recommendation attesting that they have a mental background. Most of them are released at the end of the investigation.
Motti (pseudo name) is the brother of one of the bochurim who were questioned this morning (Thursday) for several hours by the police. His younger brother, age 18 and a half, received services from the psychiatrist, who was arrested and released under restrictive conditions, after she was suspected of allegations that for NIS 600 she gave recommendations to exempt from conscription to the army.
Moti and his brother belong to a known Hasidus, most respondents so far belong to it. "Yesterday we received a letter at home, according to which, my brother must appear at the police station in Talpiot in the early morning," said Moti.
"My father immediately called the police station, where they told him, tell your young son to call, we do not give details on the phone. Later, my brother made contact with them from Yeshiva, and they said to him: We do not tell you anything, come here.
"We did not know what this is about," he recalls. "This morning, at eight-thirty he came to the police station, there were four other guys all sat in separate rooms and were questioned for a long time about their personal information, they tried to ask my brother why he went to the psychiatrist, who accompanied him, if he is normal and many other questions. When they finished, they asked him to tell who accompanied him and when he said that one of his brothers, they dialed to him, and ordered him to come to the police station, otherwise they will not release his little brother. "
When my older brother was on his way to Jerusalem, the family had heard about the affair already." He arrived at the station, he had no choice, then they delayed him for questioning, and released the little brother, while forbidding him from talking about the case.
"My brother's feeling was," he says, "that they want to tailor a file on the psychiatrist."
In the past, when the people of the program 'Hamakor' came to get the response of the psychiatrist, after sending her two yeshiva students to be exempted due to an emotional state, she responded: "I have never come across any complaint of my professional integrity. No complaint has reached me from the IDF, and certainly not from the police, as you said.
"Regarding medical advice letters - very few patients receive my diagnostis and view which restricts their ability to serve in the army. In any case, it's up to various medical committees including the IDF's. In the meeting you documented, it says explicitly that there is no psychopathology. The request for an exemption from military service was not mentioned to me at all."
