Storm in Beit Shemesh: Talmud Torah 'Toras Olam', belonging to the stream of Hasiddus in the city, a meeting was held earlier this week for educators about the legacy of the Holocaust. The goal: to transfer the legacy to the younger generation.
A few minutes before the end of the meeting, several 'kanoim' bust into the hall to protest against the gathering with different shouts. Among other things, they shouted "Giwald, Giwald."
In the Eda Hareidis they did not clarify the purpose of the meeting, where they decided that the 'Toras Olam' chose to include in its curriculum the legacy of the Holocaust and subsequently they declared war.
The Ha'eda journal attacked the project: "The smallest change in curricula for the sake of money, is the first change towards total capitulation."
They described the project as a "severe breach" and before attacking the heads of the Talmud Torah they chose to attack the person behind the project – the Degel Yerushalayim Cultural Foundation, who is carrying out this project with the initiative of the International Claims Conference and International School for Holocaust Studies of Yad Vashem, with a request to jointly promote the Holocaust education in the Haredi sector.
"Degel Yerushalayim apparently decided that teaching laws of Shabbos and Shmita to Jewish children is not enough and that they could not grow properly without courses on the Holocaust."
They termed Yad Vashem with the definition of a "heretical institution."
Later 'Ha'eda' expressed the major concern, even though they did not understand that this is a gathering of many of the teachers and the Talmudei Torah in the city. "This initial change in the curricula which is done for the sake of money is a harbinger for a complete capitulation to the project managers to the point of a decision to allow the core curriculum studies which are forbidden."
The chairman of the education committee of the Eda, Harav Haim HaCohen Rota, said on issue: "The aims of the project manager is not just settle for teaching the Holocaust only, and the agreement to bring all those teachers with false views the interior of the Talmud Torah where they could voice their opinions and views , will serve as an opening to introduce the rest of the studies which he oversees on behalf of the Ministry of Education, and the results can not be foreseen," he said.

A factor in Degel Yerushalayim, responded in a talk with Behadrey Haredim: "Talmud Torah 'Toras Olam' was chosen as host for many educators who came to participate in a lecture on the Holocaust. This claim that this was done for financial gain is a ridiculous claim. There is not the slightest connection between the heritage of the Holocaust to the core curriculum, and all claims regarding this are not worth a response. "
He said that after the request of the International Conference of Claims and Yad Vashem, it was decided to hold lectures in various institutions by Hareidi lecturers who serve in their profession as Melamdim, who are well versed in the Torah and in the studies of Holocaust. The latter gave over the last 12 months five lectures in Bnei Brak, Haifa, Beit Shemesh and more.
