In light of the escalation in southern Israel recalls Naftali Bennett, candidate for 'Habayit Hayehudi' a story which happened to him in the past, or as he calls it "a lesson I learned in South Lebanon."
In light of the explanations that there is 'no military solution in Gaza, and it might be time to stop giving in to Hamas', he felt the need to tell his story.
"During the 80's and 90's, the army was in southern Lebanon to protect northern Israel. IDF awarded dozens of posts all over southern Lebanon, to produce a security zone that would keep the terrorists and missiles away from the northern communities.
The most northern outpost was stationed "Reihan" (eastern sector).
The Reihan post was always held by a platoon for four months, until his transfer to another platoon.
Over the years I passed Reihan many times, because it was the exit base for missions to eliminate terrorists.
After a while, I discovered a pattern:
When sitting for a long time at the post, and poured more concrete and another layer of protection at the post, the terrorists were becoming more and more daring, approaching the outpost, firing mortars at us and more.
And every time we outpost, we located terrorists and killed them, it was quiet. Sometimes, the quiet went on for 3-4 months. The terrorists were busy running away, digging and protecting themselves.
It felt amazing. We knew that every time we kill 2-3 Hezbollah terrorists, we really save Jewish lives.
Exhausting struggle
"There is something misleading," he concludes. "The basic feeling of man is that in order to protect yourself you need to hide behind walls, iron domes and wrap up. My home is my castle and so on. But this is a mistake. The true way to protect the State of Israel is out of the walls of the fortification, to initiate, to suicide, to kill them, and again, and again. Every terrorist that pops up – is dead. Every explosives lab - is destroyed. "
I know it does not sound good. I know it sounds kind of exhausting and an endless struggle. But the struggle against the forces of evil before us is a long struggle. With Hamas there will never be peace. Remember always that the quiet periods for the people of Israel were limited.
This is the role of the Israel Defense Forces. Soldiers must protect the residents. Not reversed. If you need to enter a military operation in Gaza, then yes, do it.
Never Give Up. We must compete. But if we try, and won't give up, if any terrorist who raises his head dies, then our country will be calm.
