An area in Haifa was dedicated to the Philippine government who saved Jews during the holocaust.
With the outbreak of the Second World War, President of the Philippines, Quezon, issued 10,000 immigration visas to European Jews but only 1,300 Jews actually used them.
In recognition of his act, an area in the Denia neighborhood of Haifa was dedicated as 'Philippine Square'-in dedication to the Philippine government.
The ceremony was attended by Vice President of the Philippines, Jojomar Beenay who emphasized that his country supports humanitarian activities and will not hesitate to do so again if required to do so.
